The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has acquired 17 Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), each equipped with advanced technology to enhance diverse operational tasks, including the transportation of individuals in custody.
Bernama reports that according to MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, the agency received the Weststar Maxus V80 brand SPVs, marking the first use of such a vehicle by any enforcement agency in the country.
Manufactured within a rapid three-month timeframe specifically for the transportation of individuals in custody, the Weststar Maxus V80 SPV is designed with security features for escorting suspects to court.
It boasts a sophisticated closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system, including a 360-degree camera that can be remotely monitored from the headquarters, even when the vehicle is in another state. Additionally, it is equipped with a GPS tracking device for safety purposes.
Azam highlighted that the SPV incorporates advanced technologies such as a centralised communication system, walkie-talkies, and run-flat tires.
Out of the 14 SPVs received, each state will be allocated one, with two more stationed at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, and one designated for the Security Division’s use in transporting weapons and related equipment.
Azam emphasised that the distribution of these SPVs will address the shortage of suitable vehicles for transporting suspects in custody to court.
