Minister Fahmi Fadzil of the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) reassured that the National Digital Identity or Digital ID project, a collaboration with MIMOS Berhad and other agencies, will not compromise the security of Malaysians’ personal data.

The initiative, already implemented in countries like Estonia, Singapore, and the UAE, aims to standardise the ‘sign-in’ process across ministries, reduce application development costs, and enhance security, according to Bernama.

Fahmi stressed that the project, announced in 2021, is not new, and its implementation will ensure the safety of Malaysians’ data from malicious parties, addressing concerns circulated on social media.

The government’s approval of an initial RM80 million allocation underscores its commitment to expedite the development of the National Digital ID project, enhancing the efficiency of public services through a self-verification platform.
