Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil reported that Malaysia’s median 5G speed, standing at 485.25Mbps, holds the title of the fastest among Southeast Asian nations and ranks third globally.

He cited the latest results from Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence data for the third quarter of 2023 to support this claim, according to Bernama.

Fahmi emphasised that these achievements underscore the quality and reliability of the world-class 5G network developed by Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) in Malaysia.

As of the end of September, Malaysia’s 5G adoption rate reached 7.4%, with approximately 2.5 million mobile users subscribing to the 5G network.

Speaking at the launch of DNB’s 5G Experience Centre, Fahmi highlighted the two-year effort focused on consumer adoption to expand the customer base for enterprises.

He stressed the importance of recognising 5G as the foundation for the upcoming technological and industrial revolution, urging both consumers and enterprises to embrace it.

Fahmi also noted the significance of the ‘My5G Portal’ in positioning Malaysia as a digital hub. He described the centre as a valuable resource for companies, public services, academia, and the wider public aiming to adopt 5G technologies, stressing the need for all stakeholders to harness its potential.

Through this centre, DNB aims to showcase the true potential of 5G-powered technologies in automation, artificial intelligence (AI), extended reality (XR), and robotics, fostering the adoption of 5G among leaders in the public and private sectors as well as the general public.

The ‘My5G Portal’ is a collaborative effort between DNB and its key partner, Ericsson, along with an ecosystem of over 20 local and international solution partners.

It serves as a catalyst for sharing knowledge, generating ideas, and co-creating solutions, driving the global advancement and adoption of 5G technology.
