Monsta (formerly known as Animonsta Studios) announced that they will make history by screening their locally produced animation, Mechamato, on the Japanese TV station TOKYO MX.

The series creator revealed that Mechamato will air every Friday at 6.30 pm starting from 6 October, according to Bernama.

The series will be made available to viewers through TVer, a video-on-demand (VOD) service offered by five major commercial broadcasters in Tokyo: Nippon TV, TV Asahi, TBS Television, TV Tokyo, and Fuji Television.

This service allows viewers to catch up on television programs they may have missed for free within a week.

Monsta’s marketing director, Faiz Zainal Aabidin, expressed that this development marks a significant milestone for the company. He acknowledged that the Japanese market is notoriously challenging for international animation, especially coming from a Southeast Asian country like Malaysia.

A key requirement for international programs to be broadcasted on Japanese TV channels is that animated series should expose the audience to culture and tradition to enhance viewers’ knowledge, he said.

Monsta also shared that TOKYO MX Mall, an online shopping website, will offer FGURA Mechamato toys for sale.

Prior to this groundbreaking TV broadcast, Mechamato had been available in Japan through various online platforms, including Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime, Hulu, dAnimeStore, J:Com, and FOD.

Additionally, it received the Anime Fan Award at the Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2023 held in March.
