The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and the Ministry of Human Resources (MoHR), in partnership with Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) and Microsoft, have launched the Talent in Tech Accelerator Nationwide Program.

This initiative aims to equip 1,000 final-year students from public universities with in-demand technical skills and certifications while facilitating talent matching to address the evolving needs of the digital industry.

The program aligns with MoHE’s Higher Education Strategic Digitalisation Plan (2021 – 2025), focusing on enhancing digital competency among Malaysian students and fostering a digital-centric culture.

YB Dato’ Hj. Mohammad Yusof Bin Hj. Apdal, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, emphasised the importance of digital skills and technical expertise in today’s world, to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

The program will provide students with training from certified educators and Microsoft Experts in essential digital skills, access to self-paced learning resources via Microsoft Learn, and employability skills and career readiness programs.

Thomas Mathew, TalentCorp Group Chief Executive Officer, emphasised the need to prepare talents for future market demands, including new age technologies.

Microsoft’s Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia, K Raman, highlighted the company’s commitment to bridging the gap between people’s readiness and industry demand in the digital economy.

He added that Microsoft has made significant progress in upskilling Malaysians, with 85% of its target to upskill 1 million Malaysians by the end of 2023 achieved as of August 2023.

The program, which was initially conducted on a smaller scale with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), has now been expanded nationwide.

Puvaan Raaj, a UTHM undergraduate student who completed the program, shared his positive experience and how it enhanced his skills and employability.

Microsoft also signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with MoHE and TalentCorp to empower students with digital skills and provide potential employment opportunities.

Successful students can explore job opportunities with various industry partners such as, Air Liquide, Alliance Bank, AmBank Group, Avanade, CIMB Bank, Enfrasys, Experian, Habib Group, Malaysia Aviation Group, Nexperia, OCBC Bank, SCHOTT, Shell, and UOB Bank. Certified talents will also be a part of the MEET Community @ LinkedIn.

The pilot program is scheduled to run from 11 September to 22 September 2023, targeting final-year students from participating local universities. For more information, you can visit the Talent in Tech Accelerator Nationwide Program.
