Google Chrome is the world’s most popular web browser with 65.52% market share as of August 2022. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that it is a favourite target for hacking among cybercriminals.
In a reporting by The Verge, Google has advised Chrome users on Windows, Mac, and Linux to update the browser immediately after discovering a major security flaw that hackers are actively exploiting.
The giant search engine company said in its blog post:
Google is aware of reports that an exploit for CVE-2022-3075 exists in the wild.
The update to fix this security vulnerability should be coming out to all users in the coming days or weeks.
Google is keeping a tight lid on the details of the bug to make it more difficult for hackers to identify the vulnerability and use it before the next update shuts down the attack window.
To update Chrome, click the three vertical dots icon on the upper right of the browser. Select ‘Help’ and then select ‘About Google Chrome’. It will automatically look for an update and install it. Once it is done, just click ‘Relaunch’ to complete the update.
Your Chrome should be running version 105.0.5195.102 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. So if you haven’t been updating Chrome for a while, go ahead and do it immediately.
