These days, especially on dating apps, there are a lot of fake profiles online. As a result, you might want to pay attention if someone starts talking about investments while you are chatting with them.
In a news report by The Star, five men were arrested for allegedly operating a bitcoin investment scam while using female aliases on social media.
According to Kajang OCPD Asst Comm, Mohd Zaid Hassan, the suspects, who range in age from 23 to 32, were apprehended following a raid at Batu 9, Cheras, on Wednesday, 20 July, at around 8 pm.
Mohd Zaid said that 16 mobile phones and five laptops were seized on the property and according to investigations, the scammers pretended to be women online in order to entice their victims. He added that they have been operating for about three months.
The suspects would target male victims. They would then dupe the victims into investing in a bitcoin investment that does not exist.
We are investigating under Section 420 of the Penal Code. The suspects have been remanded until Friday, 22 July.
