Blockchain has seen its uses in social media and especially the crypto worlds, but this time blockchain tech is being used to authenticate degrees.
Developed in-house, the TAS application was conceived through a collaboration between USIM’s System Development and Engineering Centre (SDEC) and Malaysia Higher Education Institutions (IPTM) blockchain network.
Developed in-house, the TAS application was conceived through a collaboration between USIM’s System Development and Engineering Centre (SDEC) and Malaysia Higher Education Institutions (IPTM) blockchain network.
The purpose for the application is to prevent fraud involving false degree certificates.
USIM’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr. Mohamed Ridza Wahiddin said in a press release that this application was made not only to curb false degrees, but also protect the reputation and integrity of the university’s certificates.
He then explained that the digital degree could only be accessed by those who were given permission through the TAS application.
The reason the university decided to use blockchain technology is to reduce costs and because it has already proven itself to be secure.
Starting today, employers or interested parties are able to download the application, which is currently available on the Google Play Store and a web version to be released later this year.
The application is quite reminiscent of the ministry’s e-Scroll system that was launched back in 2018 to tackle the same issues brought forward by USIM.
