Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the government doesn’t intend to regulate e-hailing fares and existing policies will be maintained.
He was quoted by Bernama saying that they will not set price controls or floor prices on driver’s rates after taking into account the driver’s overall earnings.
To me, raising the fare will have implications on the users’ fare… So we need to look at a balance because e-hailing uses a dynamic pricing mechanism, depending on supply and demand.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke
Loke added that while the existing policy remains, the government will continue to hold discussions with e-hailing companies from time to time so they can find an approach without imposing conditions.
He responded to a question from Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng who asked about the ministry’s follow-up action after meeting e-hailing companies, especially regarding fares which are reported to be too low.
The Minister also responded to another question by Jerantut MP Khairil Nizam Khirudin who asked about reforms for the taxi industry, saying that they have been encouraged to join in the e-hailing system and added that current policies allow for both private vehicles to do both the straight and e-hailing service systems.
