Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the government’s aim to provide each student with a device to facilitate digital learning.

He acknowledged the financial constraints but emphasised the government’s commitment to implementing the initiative in phases, with the potential to start as early as this year, according to Bernama.

The Ministry of Education aspires to equip every student with a tablet. Zahid believes that learning through devices is inevitable and insists on providing tablets despite financial challenges.

He called for the immediate phased implementation of the initiative, noting that while the teaching methods are ready, the lack of tablets remains the primary obstacle.

He expressed optimism that within four to five years, the majority of students would have tablets if the phased approach begins this year.

Zahid also mentioned his plans to discuss securing additional funding for device purchases with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to support the expansion of comprehensive digital learning.

The previous administration initiated the “PerantiSiswa” program in 2022 with a similar objective, but focused exclusively on students from B40 income bracket families.

This time, it appears that the government is focusing on all students in Malaysia, irrespective of their socioeconomic status.
