Bolt, the global ride-hailing company, is actively seeking a country manager for Malaysia, indicating its potential expansion into the country.

The Estonia-based company is in search of an executive to take charge and initiate the launch of its ride-hailing operations in Malaysia, according to Tech in Asia.

The selected country manager will be stationed in Kuala Lumpur, collaborating with local operations teams, the company’s headquarters, regional manager, and regulatory stakeholders.

Founded by Markus Villig in 2013, Bolt boasts a customer base of over 150 million across 45 countries.

If the expansion materialises, Malaysia will become Bolt’s second market in Southeast Asia, following Thailand, where the company holds the second-largest market share in ride-hailing services, operating in seven local cities.

While Bolt presently offers services with cars, motorcycles, and taxis in Thailand, it faces a challenge in Malaysia where regulations prohibit ride-hailing services for two-wheelers.

Malaysia is currently dominated by established players like Grab and MyCar. Bolt will also encounter competition from other ride-hailing services such as AirAsia Ride, EzCab, Maxim, and inDrive.
