Early last week, we covered a news where a local tech site, reported that a group called R00TK1T had allegedly hacked PADU and the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), an agency affiliated with the women, family, and community development ministry.
The hackers claimed that they had “acquired data from PADU” and purportedly breached LPPKN’s security framework, extracting over 27GB of data from its servers.
Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli however said the hackers didn’t hack the actual PADU site, but another PADU site related to LPPKN.
In response, the group claimed they did hack the actual PADU site and posted a profile page of Rafizi as proof.
The group is even trying to sell the stolen PADU database for a starting price of USD50,000 (~RM238,125).
Other than that, the group is also trying to sell data stolen from private companies such as CIMB, Maybank, Public Bank, Sime Darby, and many others for the same starting price.
Whether or not the claims are legit remain to be seen. At the time of writing, neither Rafizi nor anyone from the government has issued any statement regarding this.
