Malaysians need not worry about the data gathered through the Central Database Hub (PADU) since it is governed by various existing laws.
Bernama reports that according to Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, the chairman of the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the government will introduce the Omnibus Bill to further safeguard against any misuse by irresponsible parties.
He emphasised that the existing legal framework would deter unauthorised use of data for scams or other illicit purposes. The forthcoming Omnibus Bill aims to enhance data privacy protection, providing additional security controls over the collected information.
Syed also stressed that legal repercussions would be initiated against any entity found misusing the data under the relevant Acts.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to launch PADU today. This database is positioned to become the country’s primary, secure, and nearly-real-time repository, facilitating the generation of more precise analytic data.
The objective is to enable data-driven policymaking, ensuring a targeted implementation of policies to maintain the country’s fiscal stability.
