RedMagic has recently introduced the RedMagic 9 Pro series gaming smartphones in the Chinese market, comprising two variants: RedMagic 9 Pro and RedMagic 9 Pro+.

Distinguishing themselves from many other Android phones, the RedMagic 9 Pro series boasts a flat back and a full-screen display, eliminating the need for a rear camera bump and a front camera cutout on the screen. The camera configuration is shielded by a specialised glass layer that doesn’t impede light entering the sensors.

The gaming phones are available in three colour options: Dark Knight, Deuterium Front Transparent Dark Night, and Deuterium Front Transparent Silver Wings.

Internally, both the RedMagic 9 Pro and 9 Pro+ are equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, coupled with up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS4.0 storage.

Noteworthy cooling features include a 10,182mm² vapor chamber, a new alloy fan with a waterfall air duct, and the CUBE energy engine, claiming to reduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip’s heat by up to 25°C.

RedMagic claims the phones can effortlessly maintain 60FPS in Genshin Impact for a continuous 60 minutes.

The phones are rumoured to incorporate RedMagic’s proprietary gaming chip, the Red Core R2 Pro, aimed at enhancing gaming experiences through improved haptic feedback, audio quality, and touch-sampling rate.

Both models sport a 6.8-inch 2480 x 1116 resolution full-screen AMOLED display, achieving an impressive 93.7% screen-to-body ratio.

The display features a 120Hz refresh rate, 2160Hz ultra-high frequency PWM dimming + DC dimming, a 960Hz multi-finger touch sampling rate, a peak brightness of 1600nit and covers the DCI-P3 colour gamut, and supports HDR10+.

Additionally, the phones incorporate an under-display camera concealed with BOE’s under-screen Q9+ luminescent material.

In terms of photography, the primary camera is a 50MP Samsung GN5 with OIS, complemented by a 50MP JN1 ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP macro lens.

The 9 Pro is equipped with a robust 6,500mAh battery paired with 80W fast charging, providing a full charge in just 35 minutes.

Conversely, the 9 Pro+ features a smaller 5,500mAh battery, but support an impressive 165W ultra-fast flash charging capability, delivering a complete charge in a mere 16 minutes. Both models are using the USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port.

Additional features include 520Hz touch shoulder buttons for gaming, Magic Sound stereo dual speakers, three built-in microphones, Wi-Fi 7, an IR remote control, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and NFC functionality.

Pricing and Availability

The RedMagic 9 Pro series pricing starts at CNY4,399 (~RM2,905) for the 8+256 GB variant. If you opt for the higher-end Red Magic 9 Pro+ with 16/256 GB, the cost goes up to CNY5,499 (~RM3,631).

For now, these gaming phones are only available in China, but RedMagic is planning to launch the phones globally on 18 December 2023.
