In the near future, Axiata Group Bhd and Cybersecurity Malaysia (CSM) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity, according to Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
He mentioned that Axiata and CSM are in the final stages of finalising the MOU. Fahmi also expressed his support for this initiative and expressed hope for its swift resolution, according to Bernama.
Fahmi also suggested that CSM and the Ministry of Communications and Digital should collaborate with additional parties to establish cooperation.
The Minister emphasised the potential need to form an alliance among cybersecurity service providers in the country to address future cybersecurity challenges, including the threat of malware attacks.
He shared these remarks with reporters during his visit to the Axiata Cyber Fusion Center at Menara CelcomDigi.
During the visit, Fahmi toured the Axiata Cyber Fusion Centre facility and observed a simulation of a cyber-attack, which showcased its capabilities in enhancing the cybersecurity of both businesses and public sector organisations, including critical national infrastructure.
In his earlier speech, Fahmi encouraged local telecommunications companies, including Axiata, to consider expanding their operations beyond their current scope.
He noted the upcoming opportunity as Malaysia assumes the chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025, suggesting that organisations like Axiata could explore broader international operations for their Cyber Fusion initiatives.
