TM Global announced that they are a consortium member of the Asia Link Cable System (ALC) after signing the Construction and Maintenance Agreement in Penang recently.

Currently, according to reports from NST, there are seven members from the ASEAN and North Asia regions:

  • SingaporeTelecommunications Limited (Singtel)
  • China Telecom Global Limited (CTG)
  • China Telecommunications Corporation (CTC)
  • Globe Telecom
  • Philippines’ DITO Telecommunity Corporation (DITO)
  • Brunei’s Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN)
  • Global Transit Singapore Pte. Ltd (GTS)

Our inclusion in the ALC consortium marks another milestone in TM Global’s ongoing efforts to position Malaysia as a digital hub in the region. Leveraging our strategic location, the ALC is expected to attract more international submarine cables to land in Malaysia and entice global technology players to leverage our data centres.

She added that this would also allow them to support the deployment of hyperscalers’ data centres and also be ready for future 5G network requirements in the country.

New Cable Landing Station In Johor by next year

Based on reports the Cable Landing Station (CLS) will be in TM Exchange Kuala Sedili, Johor and it spans a total distance of 7,200km with an initial design capacity of 24Tbps.

The CLS, which is expected to be completed by 2025 will also capitalise on TM’s Iskandar Puteri Data Centre due to its close proximity.

The station is the sixth international CLS in the country, including Kuala Muda (Kedah), Morib (Selangor), Mersing (Johor), Cherating (Pahang) and Melaka.

The ALC would significantly boost the data-transfer capacity of TM Global’s existing submarine cable systems, according to their statement, which caters to the increasing bandwidth demands across the ASEAN and North Asia regions.

TM Global also said that ALC adopts an open cable system design that is adaptable and compatible with various technologies and upgrades.

This better positions TM Global and other consortium members to address the growing bandwidth demand for higher data capacity.
