The WhatsApp app for smartwatches was first teased during the May 2023 Google I/O conference.

After months of beta testing and high anticipation, WhatsApp has finally rolled out its standalone app for smartwatches operating on Google’s Wear OS.

The recent announcement by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the launch of the WhatsApp app for Wear OS, enabling users to initiate new conversations, respond to messages, and even make calls without the need for their paired smartphone.

This app allows users to send and receive text and voice messages, emojis, and quick replies directly from their wrist.

The company said it has already begun its global release and is fully compatible with smartwatches running Wear OS 3. Also, WhatsApp said they are looking forward to bringing the messaging app to more devices in the future. Maybe to Apple Watch next?
