For those who are using WhatsApp regularly and using more than one phone, don’t you wish you can linked your account to another device as well? Well, now you can with this new beta feature.
According to WABetaInfo, this feature called the “Companion mode”, allow users to link their existing WhatsApp account to another phone.
This new feature allows users to link up to four devices simultaneously, which means that it’s possible to link more than two mobile phones to your WhatsApp account. All your personal messages and calls will remain end-to-end encrypted even when using WhatsApp from a linked mobile phone. This means that any messages sent to you will be encrypted and sent to all your linked devices.
Users can now access their WhatsApp chats on a second mobile phone without needing an active Internet connection on their primary phone, once they have linked their existing WhatsApp account to the secondary device.
Currently, this feature is only available for Android phones or tablets, as WhatsApp for iOS does not have the companion mode. However, iPhone users can still link a second Android phone as the feature is available on Android.
Here’s how to link a secondary Android mobile device:
- You need to download the latest beta version of WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business from the Google Play Store on that device.
- Then, while registering, tap the overflow menu and select the “Link a device” option. On your primary device, open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Linked devices.
- Use the primary device to scan the QR Code displayed on the secondary mobile phone.
Once you link your WhatsApp account to a new mobile phone, your chat history will be synchronised across all of your linked devices. However, some features may still not be accessible, such as managing broadcast lists and posting a status update from the linked device.
All users can access the companion feature by installing the latest beta version of WhatsApp Messenger and WhatsApp Business on their Android device.
