On Thursday (30 May 2024), the ride-hailing company Grab and OpenAI (creator of ChatGPT) announced their collaboration to build and deploy advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.
Grab stated that this collaboration marks OpenAI’s first partnership of its kind in Southeast Asia. Grab will utilise OpenAI’s tools to develop solutions for users in the region. The company said they will be focusing on three areas: accessibility, customer support, and mapping.
Grab stated that they will use state-of-the-art text and voice capabilities to make its services more accessible to all users, particularly the visually impaired or elderly, who may find navigating the on-screen app interface challenging.
Grab also plans to develop AI-powered customer support chatbots that can “better understand user problems and resolve them faster.”
Additionally, Grab intends to leverage OpenAI’s vision capabilities to enhance its map-making efforts, improving automation and data extraction from visual images.
“This means GrabMaps can be updated even faster, delivering a better experience to consumers and driver-partners,” the company said.
Additionally, Grab intends to initiate a pilot program for the deployment of ChatGPT Enterprise among selected employees, aiming to expand the adoption of AI tools within its workforce to enhance productivity.
