The Smart Nation Expo 2023, commencing from 19 September to 21 September at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur, plays a pivotal role in introducing new digital technologies and solutions like artificial intelligence (AI) and Web 4.0.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof emphasised this significance because the digital economy stands out as one of the fastest-growing industries and the largest contributor to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

He noted that it presently constitutes 22.6% of Malaysia’s GDP and is projected to increase to 25.5% by 2025, according to Bernama’s news report.

Fadillah, who also serves as the Agriculture and Commodity Minister, explained that to support the digital transformation agenda, the government introduced the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint and the 4th New Industrial Master Plan. These initiatives aim to generate high-paying jobs and business opportunities for Malaysians.

He further stated, “With our 5G network rollout progressing as planned, targeting 80% network coverage in populated areas by year-end, all sectors of the economy, including agriculture, manufacturing, financial services, construction, healthcare, transportation, security, education, and government services, will be able to expedite their digital transformation initiatives.”

Happening concurrently with the EVM Asia Expo, an exhibition focusing on electrified vehicles, mobility, manufacturing, and auto parts, Fadillah expressed confidence that the event would facilitate new partnerships and attract investments in the region.

The expo, boasting 584 exhibitors from 23 countries, will showcase smart technologies tailored to key economic sectors such as government, agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, e-mobility, education, healthcare, construction, energy, security, and communications.

Over the course of three days, more than 500 delegates and 38 speakers will participate in the Digital Economy Leaders’ Summit, the Asia Smart Cities Summit, and the Asia Electric Vehicles and Mobility Forum to stay updated on the latest developments in the digital and e-mobility domains.

Additionally, the expo will host 66 tech talks concurrently, with expectations of over 1,000 attendees, while arranging more than 100 business-matching sessions to facilitate interactions between local and international companies.

AMB Tarsus Events Group is the event’s organizer, collaborating with various ministries, including the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovations, the Ministry of Communications and Digital, and the Ministry of Local Government Development.

The expo has received support from agencies such as the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), and the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics, and IoT Institute (MARii).
