The Government’s effort to enhance digital technology in the agricultural sector, through the eLadang pilot program known as Digital Agriculture Technology (Digital AgTech), has garnered the attention of the European Union (EU)-ASEAN Business Council.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil made this announcement following a visit from a delegation of the council, led by its executive director, Chris Humphrey, on 12 September, according to Bernama.
The Digital AgTech initiative is designed to empower farmers and agribusinesses nationwide with cutting-edge technology, providing real-time insights into productivity and predictive analytics to address the issue of national food security.
This initiative offers a range of features, including precision farming, crop health monitoring, weather forecasting, market insights, resource management, and farm performance analytics, all easily accessible.
Furthermore, discussions during the meeting covered policies aimed at boosting the digital economy, Malaysia’s ongoing digital transformation efforts, and the latest developments in 5G infrastructure, as highlighted by Fahmi.
Fahmi also emphasised that cyber threat mitigation was part of the conversation, with a focus on the roles of both government and private companies.
He expressed confidence that this meeting would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between the Communications and Digital Ministry and the EU-ASEAN Business Council, particularly in the realm of digital technology.
