Yesterday, the Digital and Communications Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, announced that he will be looking into ways to make telco services more affordable and he added there will be a special announcement in the coming weeks. But today, he already has good news for us.

Malay Mail reported that before Christmas, the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) will make an announcement primarily concerning internet and phone charges, that will help the B40 and M40 groups feel less of the effects of increased living costs.

Let’s wait for Santa Claus to come. But we are looking at the issues of internet and phone charges. Those are among the things I’m concerned about.

Fahmi claimed that countless requests for various issues to be examined, particularly in terms of costs and service quality, have been made on social media. But in his opinion, connectivity and access are considerably more crucial than merely concentrating on price reduction.

Additionally, he said that not all mobile network providers (MNOs) were present in some places, which led to service issues.

Besides that, Fahmi mentioned that a survey taken by an enforcement agency revealed that 66% of respondents wanted the government to concentrate on lowering living expenses.

Fahmi said he would emphasise in future talks with telecom providers that “we don’t only want cheaper services, we want better services as well,” noting that KKD is also concerned about the issues affecting 5G and 4G networks.
