Phase one of the Keluarga Malaysia Hardcore Poverty Prevention Programme (BMTKM) has received the cooperation of four private companies in its efforts to promote digitisation among the poor.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Department says that Shopee Malaysia, Dialog Berhad, Felda Global Ventures (FGV), and UMW Corporation Sdn. Bhd (UMW) has agreed to assist the Government, as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to help entrepreneurs among the poor, to reach more customers through digital marketing.

On 26 July, Shopee held a training session at the Federal Library @ Lembah Pantai to promote the benefit of the eDagang platform to entrepreneurs living in the Kerinchi People’s Housing Project (PPR) locality.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed inaugurated the programme.

PPR Kerinchi is only one of the 80 localities in the programme. Only 22 of the 57 heads of families at the locality joined the programme. In total there are approximately 3,000 heads of families in the BMTKM programme.

According to the Prime Minister’s Department, Shopee will adopt and guide those who joined the programme until they become successful digital entrepreneurs.

At the same time, the progress of the participants will be monitored by Universiti Malaysia to ensure the effectiveness of the programme.

I call for more companies to come forward, together with the Government, in making the BMTKM programme a success. To achieve the target of zero extreme poverty by the end of 2025.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
