Without it, users simply do not have many resources to work with to entertain others with their TikToks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, it came as a shock for many when Universal Music Group (UMG) announced its decision to withdraw its music catalog from the social platform.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therakyatpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/341603806_996879425024135_6758865864388069042_n-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-844144\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Facebook<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As stated in their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.universalmusic.com\/an-open-letter-to-the-artist-and-songwriter-community-why-we-must-call-time-out-on-tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a>, UMG stated that the company has removed their artists\u2019 music following their dispute with TikTok, claiming that the move was to protect their patron artists.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TikTok, according to UMG, was not willing to compensate for the fair market value of the music.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith respect to the issue of artist and songwriter compensation, TikTok proposed paying our artists and songwriters at a rate that is a fraction of the rate that similarly situated major social platforms pay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday, as an indication of how little TikTok compensates artists and songwriters, despite its massive and growing user base, rapidly rising advertising revenue, and increasing reliance on music-based content, TikTok accounts for only about 1% of our total revenue,\u201d said UMG in its statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therakyatpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/kubur-macam-rumah-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-843438\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Universal Music Group<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The music label also accused TikTok of not going the extra mile to protect their artists from AI technology and bullying.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TikTok\u2019s statement&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TikTok has since replied to UMG\u2019s letter, calling the company \u201csad and disappointing\u201d for putting their interests above the interests of their artists and songwriters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, TikTok highlighted how they managed to reach their \u2018artist-first\u2019 agreements with every other label and publisher, except for UMG.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cClearly, Universal\u2019s self-serving actions are not in the best interests of artists, songwriters, and fans,\u201d concluded TikTok in its<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/en-us\/tiktok-statement-in-response-to-universal-music-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;statement.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"but-what-does-this-mean-for-users\" class=\"cnvs-block-section-heading cnvs-block-section-heading-1707122615634 halignleft\" >\n\t<span class=\"cnvs-section-title\">\n\t\t<span>But what does this mean for users?\u00a0<\/span>\n\t<\/span>\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As such, users will no longer be able to feature the label\u2019s artists\u2019 music in their TikToks. This includes artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Coldplay, and Drake.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.therakyatpost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/universal-music-tarik-lagu-dari-tiktok-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-843451\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Pexels<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And for those who had previously featured the artists in their TikToks, their videos will be muted from now on due to copyright restrictions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But not all hope is lost as users can still swap their videos\u2019 music with new ones.
