Continuing on his mission to help those in need, celebrity preacher and philanthropist Ustaz Ebit Lew offers free tablets to students who must study online during the pandemic.

Taking to social media, Ebit announced that he had purchased a total of 100 Samsung Galaxy Tab A tablet.

Depending on the specifications and whether they have just WiFi or are also 4G LTE capable, these tablets can cost between RM600 to over RM1,000.

Running primarily on the Android-OS, the Galaxy Tab A is considered one of the many school-friendly tablet computers available on the market – equipped with quality resolution cameras and able to run popular remote learning tools like Google Classroom or the Education Ministry’s (MOE) “KPM eTextbook Reader”.

Depending on a student’s need, Samsung’s tablets can also easily be paired with a digital pen or stylus, or even be connected to a physical keyboard.

Just a call away

Hoping to spread his good cause, Ebit invites those who are in “real need” of the devices to proceed with Teaching and Learning at Home (PdPR) sessions, to get in touch with him directly at 0175870294.

Digital poverty

Schools across the country returned to session on 13 January. Both primary and secondary school students (Form one – Form four) have been ordered by the MOE to participate in PdPR sessions off-campus.

In 2020, a study by the MOE revealed that 37% or 1.7 million students in our public schools do not have access to electronic or digital devices to enable them to participate in online learning.

The pandemic has also highlighted major shortfalls in Malaysia’s telecommunication infrastructure as stories sprung up of children climbing trees and falling off bridges while in search of an internet connection to continue their education.
