The Lenovo Legion 5i Gen 9 is a gaming beast that packs a serious punch. With its huge 16-inch display, you’re in for crisp, stunning visuals that make games and content look incredibly sharp and immersive.

But one thing lah, it’s quite big and berat. So if you’re looking for a laptop to carry around easily, this one might not be the best choice. But if you’re a serious gamer, then no problem lah, the power you get from it is totally worth the trade-off.

This thing feels rock solid and is far from compact. But the extra space means you get a spacious trackpad, perfect for when you’re not using a mouse, and a full size num-pad for all you “micro-ing” maniacs out there.

The RGB backlit keyboard is another standout—clicky, responsive, and perfect for gaming and typing. Plus, if bright lights aren’t your thing, the RGB lighting is fully customizable, so you can adjust or turn it off as you please.

Ports-wise, you’ve got two USB-A and two USB-C slots, an audio jack, a 3-in-1 MicroSD card reader, and HDMI 2.1. Plus, the HDMI and charger ports are at the back, keeping cables tidy and out of sight.

Our test model had an Intel® Core™ i7-14700HX processor, NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 GPU, 16 GB DDR5 memory, and a 512 GB SSD. But, you can customise yours with up to an Intel® Core™ i9-13900HX processor and 1TB SSD storage. It also comes with two SO-DIMM slots so you can add more RAM in the future.

We put this thing to the test with games like Diablo 4 and Halo Infinite (free on Game Pass, BTW), and it delivered midrange performance with high frame rates and buttery smooth visuals thanks to the 165Hz refresh rate.

The 16:10 aspect ratio and WQXGA resolution provide an excellent display for gaming, and connecting an external monitor is easy if you prefer a wider screen.

Plus it also comes with the Lenovo Vantage app built-in, allowing you to customise the machine’s performance even more to your liking.

The Nahimic 3D audio system sounds decent, but for a more immersive experience, putting on a good pair of headphones would be the preferred choice.

One of the laptop’s strengths is its Legion ColdFront Hyper cooling system, which keeps the laptop cool even during long gaming sessions.

But, the fans can get loud under heavy load—a minor inconvenience for top-notch cooling performance that doesn’t blow hot air on your fingers and face.

Overall, if you want a gaming laptop that prioritises performance, build quality, and display over portability and quiet operation, the Legion 5i Gen 9 is a solid investment that will handle even the most demanding games for years to come.
