Now, here’s our opinion on Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone.
What We Like
We didn’t experience any bugs, slowdowns, or malfunctions throughout the several updates that the S22 Ultra received in the few weeks that we used it for review.
We also didn’t find issues with the device during our regular everyday use.
The smoothness of operation and that spacious display still makes the S22 Ultra the device we grab just to scroll through news feeds and social networks, and watch videos, even though we have other devices to look at currently.
It’s also the best smartphone camera we have tested out so far. Photos and videos still have that AI-powered look – a little uncanny and showing more details than the eye can see – but that is standard in mobile photography now.
We also like that the S22 Ultra has a lot of settings and features so that we can make it run just the way we like it
What We Don’t Like
There are way too many options, settings, and features. Most of it will probably never see the light of day in the average user’s hands.
There are also way too many notifications for some of these optional settings.
We understand that the S22 Ultra has a lot of features, and we appreciate it, but it started to become like a child pestering us to see what it can do.
We also found that the design of the S22 is not exciting. It is old, generations old, with only small tweaks here and there, just enough to make older accessories not compatible.
Finally, the duplication of almost every app is also tiresome. There are almost two of every app that does the same on the S22 Ultra right out of the box. If Google or Microsoft has an app on the device, there’s a Samsung version of it as well.
Who Is It For
When it was announced, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was touted as the device that brought the S Pen to the S series. But in reality, it is a Galaxy Note that replaced the Ultra when took its name.
Because of that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is for the power user, someone who does not mind diving deep into the menus and tweaking things, taking advantage of every feature, removing apps, and wants a single device that can do everything.
Its ability to turn into a desktop system with DeX, the capabilities of the S Pen, and most of the creative features on the S22 Ultra would be lost on most people.
However, for those who are looking for an excellent mobile camera with a large display and exceptional performance, the Samsung S22 Ultra should be on top of your list as well.
But we said it once and we’ll say it again, if you are getting an S22 Ultra, get a case. The phone itself is tough, but it is also very slippery.
