Malaysian smartphone buyers who wanted Xiaomi’s top tier flagships were out of luck last generation, as the company skipped local releases for both the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. That hiatus is officially ending.
Xiaomi Malaysia has confirmed that the newly unveiled Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are heading to local store shelves later this year. The move brings Xiaomi back into direct competition with ultra premium flagships from Samsung and Apple in the local market.
Silicon Extreme Power And Dual Display Specs
The hardware sheet shows Xiaomi throwing everything at the wall. The standard 18 Pro runs Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while the larger Pro Max steps up to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 variant. Front displays range from a compact 6.4-inch OLED on the Pro to a massive 6.9-inch LTPO panel on the Pro Max. Both devices include a secondary AMOLED screen on the back for quick notifications, custom widgets, and framing high resolution selfies with the main camera array. Xiaomi has also built in a hardware based Privacy Display feature designed to block side angle viewing in public spaces.
Leica Optics And Huge Battery Capacities
Camera setups are identical across both models, featuring a Leica branded triple camera system headlined by a 200MP main sensor, a 200MP 3.2x periscope telephoto, and a 50MP ultrawide. Battery life should be a major standout thanks to high density silicon carbon technology. The 18 Pro houses a 7,000mAh battery, while the Pro Max packs an enormous 8,500mAh cell. Both support 100W wired and 50W wireless charging to keep downtime minimal.
Market Standing And Value Prospect
On paper, these spec sheets easily outmatch what competitors are offering in raw battery capacity and camera megapixels. The real test will come down to software tuning in HyperOS and how well Xiaomi manages thermal throttling on those high clocked Qualcomm chips under load. If Xiaomi can deliver clean software and reliable camera processing, this hardware combination makes a strong case for power users who want maximum utility without carrying external battery packs.
Local Pricing And Expected Availability
Official launch dates and Malaysian retail prices remain unannounced for now. In China, the Xiaomi 18 Pro starts at CNY5,999 (around RM3,650), while the Pro Max begins at CNY6,999 (around RM4,250). Due to ongoing global memory supply pressures driving up component costs, local entry prices are expected to land above the RM4,000 mark when official configurations are revealed.
