DJI has just announced the DJI Air 3, the successor to the Air 2 and Air 2S models. The Air 3 introduces several upgrades, with the most notable being its new camera setup. This third-generation drone boasts dual 1/1.3-inch CMOS (48 MP) sensors, featuring one as the primary camera and the other as a 3x telephoto camera. Both cameras offer 2.4 μm-wide pixels, but the primary camera comes with an f/1.7 aperture and a 24 mm equivalent focal length, while the telephoto camera has an f/2.8 aperture and a 70 mm equivalent focal length.
The Air 3 allows users to capture 4K videos at impressive frame rates of up to 100 FPS, though portrait videos are limited to 2.7K resolution. DJI has also enhanced the drone’s tracking capabilities with ActiveTrack 5.0, Point of Interest 3.0, QuickShots, and Spotlight 2.0, providing various options for automated subject tracking. Additionally, OcuSync 4 is included for video transmission, delivering 1080p/60 FPS quality at distances of up to 20 km.
One significant addition to the Air series is the integration of waypoint functionality, allowing users to plan predetermined routes for the drone to fly automatically, enabling smoother tracking shots. Furthermore, the Air 3 boasts an impressive flight time, officially rated for up to 46 minutes before requiring a battery swap.
