Yesterday, Asus unveiled their latest Android gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate.

According to GSMArena, the two devices have the same core technology, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 512GB UFS4.0 storage.

Both models feature a Samsung-made AMOLED display measuring 6.78-inch with a resolution of 2448×1080 and a peak of 1,500nits. The display supports a variable refresh rate up to 165Hz, a touch sampling rate of 720Hz, and it’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Similar to its predecessors, the ROG Phone 7 is equipped with a 6,000mAh battery that is divided into two equal 3,000mAh parts to enhance cooling, and it supports fast charging of up to 65W, but still no wireless charging.

Both phones have the same triple-camera system on the back: a 50MP IMX766 main camera, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 5MP macro camera. The front-facing camera uses a 32MP OmniVision OV32C Quad-Bayer sensor that produces 8MP images.

The duo have a larger and more effective GameCool7 cooling system with features such as a Boron Nitride layer, dual Graphite sheets, a Rapid-cycle Vapor Chamber, and a 15% efficiency boost from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

But the Ultimate edition has the AeroActive portal, which opens up to allow air flow directly onto the built-in vapor chamber, while the back of the device showcases the well-known ROG Vision display.

Additionally, Asus’ X Mode and the AeroActive Cooler 7, included in the Ultimate edition’s packaging, combine for unparalleled and sustained gaming performance. When connected to the AeroActive Cooler 7, the Ultimate edition’s AeroActive portal is activated, providing even more substantial cooling advantages.

The new AeroActive Cooler 7 features a built-in 5-magnet super linear subwoofer and a 13x38mm speaker, providing 2.1 audio with stronger bass. Both the phones themselves and the cooler feature a 3.5mm headphone jack with Dirac tuning.

The AirTrigger ultrasonic shoulder controls, supporting gestures such as Dual Action, Press and Lift, and Gyroscope Aiming, are present in the ROG Phone 7 duo. The X-axis linear vibration motor offers vibration mapping, providing realistic haptic feedback for on-screen buttons and actions.

The regular version is available in Phantom Black and Storm White, while the Ultimate edition is only available in Storm White. Both devices are rated IP54 for splash resistance.

Pricing and Availability

The ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate is now available for pre-order in Europe and Taiwan, but it’s not available in Malaysia yet. According to Lowyat.net, the local launch for these phones will be happening on 10 May 2023.
