Samsung Unveils New Galaxy S23 Series Flagships, Prices Start At RM3,899

Samsung finally revealed the long awaited Galaxy S23 Series to the world today, bringing some upgrades and a custom Snapdragon chip.

The Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra are running a custom-tuned Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, they have higher clock speeds of 3.36Ghz compared to the standard 3.2Ghz. The Adreno GPU also reportedly have a higher clock speeds of 719Mhz instead of 680Mhz.

The S23 and S23+ only come with 8GB of RAM, and between 128GB and 512GB of RAM. The Ultra comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of built-in storage.

The Galaxy S23 and S23+ have 6.1 and 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays respectively, both 1080p, both 120Hz. The Ultra has a 6.8-inch 1440p Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,750 nits of brightness. There’s a new feature called Vision Booster, which adjusts the colours and contrast to match the ambient lighting conditions.

All the displays are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Along with 100% of the paper used for the packaging, some plastics are also recycled.

The S23 and the S23+ have three cameras: a 50MP main, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a single 10MP telephoto with a 3x optical zoom. The Ultra comes with a Samsung ISOCELL HP2 200MP sensor and improved video stabilisation thanks to Adaptive VDIS which analyses and subdivides movements and recognizes lighting conditions.

There are also three additional rear cameras on Ultra: a 12MP ultra-wide with autofocus, a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a second 10MP telephoto with a 10x optical zoom. All three phones have a hole-punch notch with a 12MP selfie camera with autofocus.

To keep the phones running, the S23 has a 3,900mAh battery, the S23+ has a 4,700mAh, and 5,000mAh on the Ultra. The Plus and Ultra support fast-charging at up to 45W, but only 25W on the S23. 

According to Samsung, wired charging for the S23 takes 30 minutes to reach 50%, while the S23+ takes 30 minutes to reach 65%. The Ultra will charge to 65% after 30 minutes on the charger. All of them support wireless charging, wireless power sharing and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Besides that, the S23 series support Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C Type 3.2 and they come out of box running One UI 5.1 which was based on Android 13.

The S23 Series are available in four colours: Phantom Black, Green, Cream, and Lavender. There are also Samsung Online Store exclusive colours such as Graphite and Lime for S23/S23+ and Graphite, Sky Blue, Lime, and Red for S23 Ultra.
