PS VR2 Is Going To Be More Expensive Than PS5, Starting From RM2799

Pre-orders start on 15 November and they will be officially available on 22 February 2023.

If you have a PS5 and you can’t wait to get your hands on PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2), we have good news and bad news for you. The good news is yesterday, Sony finally revealed the launch date and the price for the Malaysian market. The bad news is, your wallet is going to cry.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, Vice President, Brand, Hardware and Peripherals, Isabelle Tomatis announced that PlayStation VR2 is officially launching on 22 February, 2023. Sony is also launching a PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station, designed specifically for the PS VR2 Sense controller on the same day.

Here’s a quick rundown of the PS VR2 specs. It uses Fresnel lenses with an OLED panel, has a panel resolution of 2000 x 2040 per eye, with a refresh rate of 90Hz and 120Hz. It has approximately 110 degrees of field of view, four cameras for headset and controller tracking and an IR camera for eye tracking per eye. Also, it has a built-in microphone and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Besides that, PS VR2 is not a standalone VR headset and has to be plugged into PS5 for it to work.

Sony also announced that 11 new titles will be coming to PS VR2 plus four more that they have already announced previously. The company said gamers can expect more than 20 games at launch.

  • The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR
  • Crossfire: Sierra Squad
  • The Light Brigade
  • Cities VR
  • Cosmonious High
  • Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue
  • Jurassic World Aftermath Collection
  • Pistol Whip VR
  • Zenith: The Last City
  • After The Fall
  • Tentacular
  • Horizon Call of the Mountain
  • Resident Evil Village
  • The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution
  • Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition

Sony said standalone software titles, including Horizon Call of the Mountain, will also be available for pre-orders starting this month and they will provide more details at a later date. 

It is important to note that PS VR 1 games are not compatible with PS VR2. Only one game will be compatible with PS VR2, No Man’s Sky.

The PS VR2 will be available for RM2,799. It comes with the headset, PS VR2 Sense controllers and stereo headphones. For comparison, the PS VR 1 cost RM1,379.

This PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle will cost you RM2,999 and it comes with the Horizon Call of the Mountain PlayStation Store voucher code for you to redeem the game and the rest is the same as the basic package.

The PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station cost RM229. If you don’t want to charge the controllers by connecting it to PS5’s USB ports, you can get this.

PS VR2 will be sold at participating retailers, with pre-orders beginning on 15 November. Sony said information will be provided through participating local retailers, so you might to keep an eye and ear on your favourite local video game stores.
