Back in 2013, Razer released a handheld gaming device named Razer Edge. It was a gaming tablet, running on Windows 8, with support up to Intel i7-3517U processor, up to 8GB DDR3 RAM, running NVIDIA GT640M LE GPU and up to 256GB of SSD storage.

It was much more expensive back then than it is now, with a starting price of USD999 and a maximum price of USD1,449. After more than nine years, Razer finally released another handheld gaming device with the same name.

The Razer Edge is the “world’s first handheld 5G gaming console” according to the company. They are releasing a WiFi and a 5G version but exclusive to Verizon. It is packing an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon G3X Gen 1 processor that can go up to 3Ghz, with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. The internal storage is a 128GB UFS 3.1 but can be expanded up to 2TB via microSD.

It has a 6.8-inch FHD+ (2400×1080) AMOLED 144Hz display with a 5MP selfie camera and it is fed by a big 5,000mAh battery but Razer didn’t say how quickly you can charge it from 0 – 100% and how long the battery will last.

It has stereo speakers with support for THX Spatial Audio. However, the 5G version supports Boomcloud360 Audio instead. There’s also support for WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack (via the controller).

Each Razer Edge comes with a Razer Kishi V2 Pro controller that uses Razer HyperSense haptics that was not available in the regular Kishi V2.

This device also supports cloud gaming, so you can use Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce Now and other cloud gaming services.

Unlike the recently announced Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld, the Razer Edge is powerful enough to run the latest Android games and emulations. So, you don’t have to worry about having to stay connected to the internet to play games.

Pricing and Availability

The Razer Edge starts from USD399.99 (RM1,886) for the WiFi version. There’s also a Founders Edition that has the same exact specs but comes with Razer Hammerhead True Wireless (2021) and this costs USD499.99 (RM2,358).

Razer is also planning to release a 5G version but it will be exclusive to Verizon and there’s no pricing for that yet.

For now, it seems Razer is only planning to release this device in the US because they didn’t announce availability in other regions.
