Did you know the first Google smartphone was not the Google Pixel, but the Nexus One? The Nexus One was manufactured by HTC and was released in January 2010. The last Google phone that bears the Nexus branding was the Nexus 6P, manufactured by Huawei and released back in September of 2015.
Starting in 2016, Google renamed their phones to Pixel, and now the internet giant has released the latest version of Pixel phones.

Let’s start with the more premium version of the lineup, the Google Pixel 7 Pro. According to GSMArena, this phone is packing a Tensor G2 processor, a 4nm chip fabricated by Samsung. It has the same core configuration as the first-gen Tensor but received a slight clock speed increase. It has 12GB of RAM and supports storage of up to 512GB (non-expandable).
The Tensor G2 is using a new GPU, a Mali-G710 MC10, which guarantees improved graphics performance and efficiency over the older Tensor as well as a 35% increase in machine learning workloads performance (which the Pixel Camera app relies on heavily). Also new are the modem and the Tensor core.
Using the newest Tensor processor, machine learning tasks can be completed 60% quicker and 20% more effectively. This help feature such as Photo Unblur, which is only available to the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro and uses Google’s cutting-edge AI to eliminate blur and noise from old photos shot with any old phone years ago.
The Pixel 7 Pro has a 6.71-inch QHD+ AMOLED LTPO display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate that can go as low as 10Hz. The screen and the back are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and it can go up to 1500 nits of peak brightness.
The phone has a 50MP OIS EIS main camera, a 48MP telephoto camera that can do 5x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide with Auto Focus camera. For selfies, there’s a 10.8MP camera.
Inside the phone, there’s a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W fast-charging via wired and 23W wireless fast-charging. It also has reverse wireless charging and supports USB PD 3.0.
The Pixel 7 Pro has an IP68 rating, an in-display fingerprint scanner, 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C 3.2, stereo speakers (no headphone jack), and WiFi 6. The phone comes in three colours: Obsidian, Snow, and Hazel.

The Pixel 7 is almost the same as its more expensive brother but smaller in size and lose out in some specs. The display has shrunk down to a 6.3-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel. But it only support 90Hz and is a non-LTPO screen.
Also, it only has 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The battery is also smaller, at 4,355mAh.
The phone is also missing the 48MP telephoto camera, but the rest of the camera setup remains the same as Pixel 7 Pro.
The phone comes in three colours: Obsidian, Lemongrass, and Snow.
Pricing and Availability
The Pixel 7 starts from USD599 (RM2,786) for 128GB and Pixel 7 Pro starts from USD899 (RM4,181) for 128GB.
Unless some miracle happens, the Pixel 7 series is not coming to Malaysia. You can try to get it from Singapore or wait for resellers to bring it in. Of course, the price will be much more expensive.
