The first company to launch a foldable tablet PC was Lenovo with its Thinkpad X1 Fold, back in CES 2020. So, it is not really new, but ASUS is touting that they are the world’s first 17-inch OLED foldable tablet PC, so we guess they are kind of right in that category. The company first previewed this device at CES 2022, and now it is ready for the public.

The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED (that’s a mouthful) includes a 4:3 aspect ratio, 2.5K (2560 x 1920) touchscreen and a 180-degree hinge that can be folded to essentially produce two 12.5-inch, 1920 x 1280, 3:2 aspect ratio.

The display boasts a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, a colour gamut of 100 percent DCI-P3, a reaction time of 0.2 milliseconds, a refresh rate of 60Hz, a brightness of up to 500 nits, and minimal blue-light emissions that have been verified by TÜV Rheinland.

The foldable device comes with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support and it has Harman Kardon certified quad-speaker with smart amplifier technology. Furthermore, it has a colour sensor, an HD IR camera, and a 5MP webcam that supports Windows Hello.

The Zenbook 17 comes with an ErgoSense Bluetooth keyboard that has a touchpad that you can place on top of the foldable when it is folded halfway or you can place the keyboard on your desk when it is unfolded.

The foldable support a 12th-generation Intel Core i7-1250U CPU with Intel Iris Xe graphics, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, and 1 TB of NVMe M.2 SSD storage. It has two Thunderbolt 4 ports that let you connect it to external screens and enable quick charging of the 75 Wh battery. Only one additional port, a 3.5 mm audio combo jack, is included. The device comes with Windows 11 Home.

ASUS said the foldable has been tested to meet the ultra-demanding MIL-STD-810H US military standard for reliability and durability. The precision-engineered 180-degree hinge is also torture-tested, undergoing over 30,000 open-and-close cycles. The company added the foldable can last more than nine years if an user opens and closes the laptop six times each day.

ASUS said the Zenbook 17 Fold will be coming to Malaysia in Q3 this year, for an extravagant price of RM14,999.
