Yesterday OPPO today introduced its flagship Find X5 series. It consists of two devices, the Find X5 and the Find X5 Pro.

The devices in the series tout five hero features: video and photography, design, performance, and a new user interface.

But, three major features stand out to us: Its camera is co-designed with Hasselblad, the design of its backplate is unique, and OPPO, a tech company is superstitious and skipped the Find X4.

That Camera

Image quality is subjective and we won’t really know how good the photos and videos were taken using the Find X5 series are until we can get our hands on one.

However, here are some specifications that OPPO has released.

The cameras on the Find X5 series will have a dedicated NPU (Neural Processing Units) called MariSilicon X. It is a 6nm imaging processing unit that OPPO says is the most powerful AI computing power today.

In plain English it means that when taking a picture or a video, most of the work is done by the processor, the rest is by the Sony advanced 50PM IMX 766 camera sensor and five-axis image optical stabilisation.

The combination of all those technologies, says OPPO, let its flagship phone take “4K Ultra Night Video”.

On the selfie side, there’s a Sony 32MP IMX709 sensor that also depends on the processor, but has two options of angles, 80-degrees or 90-degrees. For taking a solo or a group selfie.

What got Hasselblad the badge on the back of the phone is the Hasselblad Natural Colour Calibration in Pro Mode.

In other words, in Pro Mode, how the colour looks in a photo is set to Hasselblad’s standards.

That Look

We admit that in renders, the back of the Find X5 series device looks good. It comes in Ceramic White and Glaze Black and is neither glass nor metal, it’s ceramic.

That extreme piano-like glossiness gives the impression that it’s slippery though.

The rest of the device looks like a standard smartphone.

You get to choose between a 6.55in (Find X5) or a 6.7in (Find X5 Pro) AMOLED display. Both are capable of producing smooth animation with their 120Hz refresh rate and have 8192-levels of screen dimming for just the right level of screen brightness.

OPPO also says that the Find X5 series is “splash, water, and dust resistant with an IP68 rating.”

That Power

The FindX5 series smartphones are built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

It uses the SM8350 processor with Adreno 660 GPU on the Find X5 and the SM8450 processor with Adreno 730 GPU on the Find X5 pro.

For storage and memory, the Find X5 comes in only one configuration: 256GB storage with 8GB of memory.

The Find X5 Pro has 12GB of memory but an option between 256Gb and 512GB of storage.

Powering it all is a 4800 mAh battery on the Find X5 and a 5000mAh battery on the Find X5 Pro. Both support 80W SUPERVOOC Flash charging.

According to OPPO “Find X5 Pro can be charged from close to empty to 50% in just 12 minutes. With 50W AIRVOOC, it powers up to 100 per cent wirelessly in just 47 minutes”.

That UI

With a new flagship phone comes a new interface, and that is no different here. The Find X5 series will be running ColorOS 12.1 which runs on top of Android 12.
