Have you ever got a text that say Shopee or another online shopping platform offering employment opportunities, cash rewards, or lucky draws?

All these are scams.

Shopee recently put out a statement saying that they do not recruit or hold any iteration of a lucky draw contest through text messages.

Events, such as lucky draw will only be done in through the app and job offers would only come via official channels and accounts.

Here’s what you should do if you ever come across these texts:

  • SEMAKMULE – Submit the phone number that sent you the text or the bank account number attached to it to check if they are involved in any commercial crimes.
  • Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Infoline – Send a WhatsApp message PDRM’s CCID at 013-2111222. They are to available from 8:00AM to 12:00AM daily.
  • CCID Scam Response Centre – Call the CCID at 03-26101559 or 03-26101599. The lines are Open daily from 8:00AM to 8:00PM.

Shopee also said they are working closely with the authorities to combat these online scams and are keeping their customers safer while shopping online.
