The successor to the iPhone 12 comes in hot with a new set of cameras, bigger batteries, new chips and in the 13 Pro line, a 120Hz ProMotion display! What a time to be an iPhone fan.

What new with the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini?

Apple dropped the 64GB option and went straight for 128GB as the lowest capacity iPhone 13 and 13 Mini, and is offering up to 512GB for anyone that wants it.

While maintaining the same squared design as the 12 and 12 Mini, the iPhone 13 differs from the 12 with changes in the depth and the weight of the phone, the new cameras and brighter display, not to mention bigger batteries across the board.

Featuring 1,200 nits max brightness with HDR and 800 nits max brightness respectively, the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini have brighter displays compared to the 12 and 12 Mini.

The new camera array has a bigger sensor with a dual 12MP camera system featuring:

  • Wide: ƒ/1.6 aperture
  • Ultra Wide: ƒ/2.4 aperture and 120° field of view

The biggest update for video recording is Cinematic mode which boasts a shallow depth of field with 1080p recording at 30 fps, for those sweet bokeh videos.

The bigger battery for both 13 Mini and 13 is a great update from their predecessors with up to 17 and 19 hours of video playback, maintaining the same 20W and 15W (Magsafe) fast charging.

More Pro Than Ever.

A 120Hz ProMotion display, a bigger battery, more memory and better cameras; those are what you need to know about the new 13 Pro line.

The new ProMotion display is an adaptive refresh rate display that goes from 10Hz to save battery to 120Hz for smooth scrolling, finally on an iPhone instead of that fixed 60Hz display. What a breath of fresh air from Apple.

The significantly larger camera bump in the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max houses a larger sensor and the new Pro 12MP camera system that includes:

  • Telephoto: ƒ/2.8 aperture
  • Wide: ƒ/1.5 aperture
  • Ultra Wide: ƒ/1.8 aperture and 120° field of view

The camera now comes with new software that enables you to take macro photos, magnifying subjects with a minimum focus distance of 2 centimetres. The feature also extends into video, including Slow-Mo and Time-Lapse.

The 13 Pro and Pro Max will get ProRes (a high quality production video format) for video recording up to 4K at 30 fps for the 256GB version and up.

The bigger battery in the 13 Pro and Pro Max can get you up to 22 and 28 hours of video playback respectively, bringing new meaning to all day battery, maintaining the same 20W and 15W (Magsafe) fast charging.
