Kaspersky has introduced a new feature in its mobile app for Android — Notification Protection, an anti-phishing tool for messenger and SMS notifications. When activated, Kaspersky for Android identifies and removes scam or suspicious links within mobile notifications, helping users stay protected from phishing attempts.

The feature has already been activated by over 166,000 users, with consistent results in detecting and removing malicious links.

In the first half of 2025, Kaspersky’s anti-phishing tools blocked more than 2 million attempts to click on phishing or scam links across Android devices globally. According to the company’s latest phishing report, AI tools now enable highly personalised phishing via messaging apps, making attacks more sophisticated and harder to detect.

To counter these threats, Kaspersky’s Notification Protection now scans notifications from messengers, SMS, and other apps to detect malicious links before users interact with them.

Advanced Anti-Phishing

Kaspersky’s multilayer phishing detection ensures every link opened on an Android device is verified for safety:

  • Safe Browsing – the first line of protection, checking URLs and warning users about potential phishing sites in browsers.
  • Safe Messaging – detects malicious links in messengers and displays a popup warning directly inside the app.
  • Notification Protection – analyses incoming notifications across all apps, including messengers and SMS, to identify and remove suspicious links even before users open them.

When the new feature is enabled, users receive alerts via push notifications and in-app warnings, reducing the risk of tapping dangerous links in apps such as Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber, and others.

The protection operates even when the screen is off or “Do Not Disturb” mode is active. If notifications from a specific chat are disabled, Safe Messaging will still scan links within the app itself.

How To Turn Notification Protection On

The Notification Protection feature is available in the latest version of Kaspersky for Android. Since its launch, it has already prevented more than 3,500 malicious link clicks.

To activate it:

  1. Open Kaspersky for Android → All Features → Safe Messaging → Turn On Check Notifications.
  2. Grant Kaspersky notification access and enable accessibility permissions.

Kaspersky continues to enhance its consumer protection with machine learning-based algorithms and OCR (Optical Character Recognition), which identifies malicious text hidden within images. The system is also powered by a patented machine learning model trained on examples of phishing and legitimate websites.

“Every year, phishing attacks and scams grow more sophisticated. Attackers are using new channels, making scams more targeted and harder to spot. It’s easy to let your guard down and click a dangerous link. The new Notification Protection feature in Kaspersky for Android aims to eliminate this risk and alert users before harm is done,” said Marina Titova, Vice President, Consumer Business at Kaspersky.
