TVS REGZA Corporation announced the development of its largest-ever television, a 116-inch RGB Mini LED model equipped with the company’s next-generation display technologies. The new model is slated for commercial release later this year. REGZA, the signature premium television line of Toshiba TV, represents the brand’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge picture quality and innovation in home entertainment.

REGZA has long been committed to delivering the most immersive and emotionally engaging viewing experiences possible. To achieve a level of realism where on-screen visuals are virtually indistinguishable from real life, REGZA has developed and commercialised a wide range of technologies, including super-resolution, HDR restoration, and wide colour gamut reproduction.

In 2023, REGZA made a significant move into large-screen entertainment with the launch of a 100-inch TV. Building on that success, the company has now developed a new RGB Mini LED Backlight System, which independently controls red, green, and blue LEDs. This breakthrough achieves an ultra-wide colour gamut and delivers vibrant, detailed colour expression, enabling greater depth, realism, and immersion, especially on large-format screens.

Key Technologies

RGB Mini LED Backlight

Unlike conventional backlighting systems that rely on white or blue LEDs, the RGB Mini LED backlight uses discrete red, green, and blue LEDs. By independently controlling each colour channel, the system achieves superior colour purity and a significantly wider colour gamut. This allows for more natural, vibrant image reproduction, capturing everything from the delicate hues of nature to the subtle tones of city nightscapes with astonishing realism.

REGZA Engine ZRα: Advanced Picture Processing

At the heart of the new model is the REGZA Engine ZRα, a high-performance image processing engine powered by deep neural network (DNN) AI. This engine analyses video content in real time to maximise the colour performance of the panel. In combination with RGB Mini LED, the engine dynamically drives red, green, and blue LEDs by zone, optimising brightness and reducing unnecessary light bleed for refined, natural-looking images across the entire screen.

The engine also incorporates AI Scene Picture Quality Pro, which accurately identifies scenes with self-illuminated objects and reproduces vivid colours with greater fidelity. For reflected light scenes, it accounts for peak object colour brightness (known as “maximum brightness colour”) to present hues that are both natural and visually stunning. Furthermore, the expansion of the colour gamut is complemented by enhanced gradation control, with a total of 108-bit processing for precise colour gradation.

Experience REGZA Intelligence Today With The Z770R

While the 116-inch model is still under development, Toshiba TV has already brought its most advanced visual technologies to life in the Z770R, a Mini LED TV now available on the market. It features the most advanced capabilities, powering a full suite of AI-enhanced tools known as REGZA Intelligence. This includes REGZA AI Picture, AI Sound, AI Pilot, and Gen AI, all working in real time to adapt content, environment, and user preferences.

The result: sharper contrast, more natural colour, optimised audio, and personalised content discovery. This is not a future concept — it is already here, and it is redefining what an AI-era television can do.
