Maxis, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE), has launched its expanded Generative AI (GenAI) workshop, Program GenAI Maxis eKelas. The initiative marks a significant step in national efforts to equip students and teachers with future-ready AI skills, supporting Malaysia’s transition to an AI-powered nation as outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) and the Digital Education Policy (Dasar Pendidikan Digital).
The launch at SMK Seri Bintang Selatan was officiated by Puan Aniza Kamarulzaman, Director of the Educational Resources and Technology Division (BSTP) of the MoE. Co-created with the Ministry, the workshop combines industry expertise with curriculum-aligned module design, active facilitation, and measurable learning outcomes, supported by 50 Maxis volunteers acting as developers and trainers. Puan Aniza praised the programme as a model of impactful public-private partnership.
“This collaboration with Maxis demonstrates our commitment to mainstreaming technology in education. Program GenAI Maxis eKelas is not merely about technology transfer; it cultivates a generation that is skilled, principled, and responsible in using AI. By equipping teachers and students with these essential skills, we are laying the foundation for the ‘AI-Powered Classroom’ and ensuring our future workforce can lead, innovate, and compete globally,” said Puan Aniza.
The workshop is divided into two tracks to meet the needs of both students and educators. Students explore practical GenAI applications, including prompt engineering for creative and academic tasks, alongside soft skills development. The teacher track provides professional development on AI insights, prompt engineering for teaching, and responsible AI use. Both tracks emphasise ethical AI practices to ensure participants navigate the AI landscape safely.
Maxis aims to upskill 30,000 students and teachers nationwide, reaching 150 schools across all Malaysian states and digitalising the modules via the Maxis eKelas portal, accessible through the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (DELIMa) platform.

Pilot workshops have demonstrated measurable improvements, with an average 40% increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores. The modules, trialled with over 70 teachers and 60 students, also cover key topics such as Machine Learning (ML) and Large Language Models (LLMs).
This programme builds on Maxis eKelas’ existing STEM initiatives, which began incorporating GenAI modules in 2024. Maxis eKelas is an after-school digital learning initiative aimed at improving academic performance, particularly in underserved communities. Through live tutorials, group learning, competitions, and comprehensive digital content via its web portal and mobile app, the programme bridges the digital divide while empowering students and educators.
With Program GenAI Maxis eKelas, Maxis continues to advance digital literacy and innovation in Malaysia’s education system, ensuring teachers and students are well-prepared to harness AI for a brighter future.
