AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) recently announced that Google Cloud’s new C4D and H4D virtual machines (VMs) are powered by the 5th Gen AMD EPYC™ processors. These latest additions to Google Cloud’s general-purpose and HPC-optimised VM families offer class-leading performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency for cloud-based workloads – including data analytics, AI, and high-performance computing (HPC).

Google Cloud’s C4D instances deliver outstanding performance and power efficiency for general-purpose workloads and AI inference. Leveraging the AMD “Zen 5” architecture, internal testing shows the C4D instances deliver up to 80% higher throughput per vCPU compared to previous generations.

H4D instances are designed for HPC applications and utilise AMD EPYC CPUs paired with Cloud RDMA, enabling scaling to tens of thousands of cores efficiently – a critical factor for enterprise-level HPC demands.

“Since our launch, 5th Gen AMD EPYC solutions have been widely adopted across OEMs and enterprise partners. Now, we’re excited to bring them to the cloud,” said Dan McNamara, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD’s Server Business. “Our strong partnership with Google Cloud has enabled rapid integration of AMD EPYC into their infrastructure, providing high performance and cost-effective solutions to demanding customers.”

Mark Lohmeyer, Vice President and General Manager for Compute and Machine Learning Infrastructure at Google Cloud, added: “Google Cloud is committed to offering high-performance, secure, and scalable computing. With C4D and H4D powered by AMD EPYC processors, our customers can expect industry-leading performance tailored to their workloads.”

The C4D and H4D instances are currently available in preview, with general availability scheduled for later this year in multiple global regions.

Pricing for the new AMD EPYC-powered virtual machines is expected to start from RM1,599 (approx. USD340) per instance per month, depending on configuration and region.
