Following the announcement of Budget 2025, Palo Alto Networks applauds the Malaysian government’s continued commitment to digital innovation and technology-driven economic growth. The emphasis on leveraging automation and artificial intelligence across sectors aligns well with the evolving needs of Malaysia’s digital landscape.
The government’s allocation to strengthen the role of the National Scam Response Centre with a budget of 20 million ringgit, along with the commitment to bolster national cybersecurity and the enactment of the Cybersecurity Act 2024, demonstrates their dedication to digital transformation. The National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) will receive an additional 100 personnel and an extra allocation of 10 million ringgit, underscoring efforts to prioritise robust cybersecurity measures to protect the nation’s digital assets and maintain its appeal as a world-class investment destination.
Additionally, Universiti Putra Malaysia will establish the Malaysia Cryptology Technology and Management Centre in collaboration with NACSA, focusing on advancements in quantum computing to address increasingly complex cybersecurity threats.
Investing in comprehensive cybersecurity strategies will be vital as Malaysia aims to improve its global competitiveness ranking and strengthen its MSMEs. The budget allocation will allow resourcing for cybersecurity education, talent development, implementing support programs for MSMEs, and integrating security considerations into all digital infrastructure projects.
The emphasis on public sector reform through digitalization is commendable, particularly the need for robust cybersecurity measures across all digital government services. This focus is essential for protecting citizen data, maintaining public trust, and fostering a resilient digital ecosystem. With the nation approving digital investments of up to RM66.22 billion in the first half of 2024, prioritising cybersecurity will be imperative to secure our future.
Sarene Lee, Country Manager of Malaysia at Palo Alto Networks, said, “Cybersecurity is a fundamental enabler as Malaysia moves towards greater digitalization, ensuring that our industries are supported with embedded security in every layer of our infrastructure to stay protected. A secure digital ecosystem will not only safeguard our economic growth but also align with Malaysia’s goal of becoming a high-income nation by 2030, inspiring confidence among investors and citizens alike.”
Palo Alto Networks remains committed to partnering with the Malaysian government and private sector to support a secure digital future. By prioritising cybersecurity alongside digital advancements, Malaysia can achieve sustainable growth and improve the quality of life for all Malaysians.
