Charging electric cars quickly, conveniently, and anywhere is often more of a wish than reality for many drivers. Along with range and costs, charging remains one of the biggest concerns, as highlighted by a study from the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW). Bosch aims to address this with its proprietary platform, now offering access to over one million charging stations across four continents, making it one of the largest networks in the world.
“Bosch’s goal is to make charging stations widely accessible and eliminate the chaos caused by different charging apps,” says Marco Zehe, president of Bosch’s Electrified Motion division.
Bosch’s charging services are accessible via a smartphone app and can be integrated into vehicle manufacturers’ systems, allowing users to charge and pay with just a few clicks. Currently, there are about 800,000 charging stations in Europe, 130,000 in North America, and by the end of 2024, there will be approximately 200,000 across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.
“By integrating over one million charging stations into one platform, we’re making it easier for drivers to find them worldwide, helping to make electromobility more suitable for everyday use,” Zehe adds.
With the growing number of electric vehicles, Bosch expects a significant surge in demand for charging services. By 2030, one in three newly registered vehicles is expected to be purely electric, and by 2035, it will be one in two. Bosch anticipates its charging solutions business to expand by over 50 percent annually by the end of the decade.
