CIMB said it would support Apple Pay by the second half of 2023. Apple Pay support went live on 21 July, roughly three years after CIMB’s own deadline, making CIMB the seventh Malaysian bank to get there, well behind Maybank, RHB, Hong Leong, AmBank, HSBC and Standard Chartered.
Credit Cards Only, And Not Even All Of Them
Support covers most CIMB Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Add a card through the CIMB Octo App using “Add to Apple Wallet,” or add it directly in Apple Wallet on an iPhone, either works.

Two cards are excluded outright, the CIMB Petronas Visa Infinite-i and CIMB Petronas Platinum-i. Debit cards don’t work either, and neither do the Platinum Business Card or Fuel Tanker Card. If your CIMB relationship runs mostly through a debit card, this launch changes nothing for you.
The Cashback Comes In Two Separate Pots

CIMB is running a cashback campaign through 14 September to mark the launch. Up to RM118 total, but that number is really two smaller numbers stapled together, RM68 for Mastercard credit card transactions and RM50 for Visa. To hit the full RM118, you need both a CIMB Mastercard and a CIMB Visa credit card, and you need to run at least five Apple Pay transactions of RM50 or more on each to qualify.
One card gets you half the advertised figure. Read the terms before assuming RM118 is what shows up in your account.
A Predictable Feature List
CIMB’s rollout comes with the security features every bank promises by now, Face ID or Touch ID authentication per transaction, no card number shared with merchants or stored on Apple’s servers, and the ability to suspend a card through Find My if a phone goes missing.
