Google Pixel users who installed the latest Android 16 update are reporting a growing list of lock screen issues, ranging from laggy wake-ups to completely unresponsive screens. In some cases, users say the only way to get their phones working again is by force restarting.

The problems seem to centre around the phone’s inability—or unwillingness—to wake up after tapping the screen or pressing the power button. Others have flagged wildly inconsistent brightness levels or total display blackouts. Not quite the kind of upgrade anyone was hoping for.

These complaints are cropping up across user forums, though Google has yet to officially comment on the glitch or release a fix. Given that Pixel devices are typically first in line for Android rollouts, they’re also first in line to bear the brunt of any bugs.

Android 16 promised new visual design tweaks, enhanced security, and smarter notifications via Live Updates. But right now, it’s the lock screen that’s drawing the most attention. And not in a good way.

If you have not updated your software, you might want to hold off on the update until Google sorts things out.
