Spotify has recently made changes to its Premium Family Plan, reducing the number of slots available for shared subscriptions. Previously, the plan allowed up to six users (including the principal account holder), but now it is limited to just four slots.

While the reduction from six to four slots may seem like a drawback, the subscription cost remains unchanged at RM24.90 per month. However, Spotify now offers the option to add two additional slots for RM7.90 each, bringing the total number of users back to six.

This means that the cost for six users has effectively increased from RM24.90 to RM40.70 per month, representing a 63% price hike. If you’re splitting the subscription costs, each person would now pay RM6.78 instead of RM4.15.

In good news for other users, Spotify has not altered the prices for other Premium plans at this time. Here’s a breakdown of the current subscription prices for all Spotify Premium plans:

Individual Plan: RM15.90/month

Duo Plan: RM21.50/month

Family Plan: RM24.90/month

Mini Plan: RM3.20/week

Student Plan: RM8.50/month

What Happens to Existing Family Plan Subscribers?

If you’re already subscribed to Spotify’s Family Plan under the old structure, you won’t be affected by these changes. Existing subscribers can continue using the plan with the previous six-slot arrangement. The new structure only applies to subscriptions initiated on or after 12 November 2024.
