Malaysia remains steadfast in its commitment to improving the quality of digital education, working alongside the international community to transform the region’s educational landscape, according to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

In her speech at the 13th ASEAN Education Ministers’ Meeting (ASED), delivered by the Education Ministry’s Secretary-General Datuk Indera Nik Nasarudin Mohd Zawawi, Fadhlina highlighted that the National Digital Education Policy, launched in November last year, serves as a strategic framework to bolster the use of digital technology in education.

“This policy aligns with the goals of SDG4 (Sustainable Development Goal 4), which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. The policy focuses on producing a digitally literate generation that is competitive,” Fadhlina said, as reported by Bernama.

Looking forward to 2025, Fadhlina noted that Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN chairmanship will bring numerous opportunities and responsibilities, including the organisation of the ASEAN Regional Seminar, which will concentrate on utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor Out-of-School Children and Youth (OOSCY).

“This chairmanship also presents us with a golden opportunity to revisit the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Higher Education, adopted a decade ago in 2015. It’s time to reflect on our progress, reassess our goals, and craft a new outcome document that will guide ASEAN’s higher education landscape for the next 10 to 15 years,” she said.

This statement was made during a session themed “Transforming Education in the Digital Era,” officiated by Thailand’s Minister of Education, Police General Permpoon Chidchob, at the Chang Arena in Buriram.
