CelcomDigi, U Mobile, and ZTE Corporation are set to deliver Malaysia’s first-ever live broadcast powered by 5G-Advanced (5G-A) technology.

This historic event will bring the excitement of SUKMA (Sukan Malaysia) 2024 to viewers across the nation.

The broadcast will be aired via Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), showcasing the ultra-low latency and high throughput capabilities of 5G-A technology, which promises a more dynamic and efficient live broadcast experience on a large scale, according to CelcomDigi’s press release.

The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding at MWC Barcelona 2024, will see the deployment of 5G-A technology for the live broadcast of SUKMA 2024’s Opening Ceremony on 17 August 2024, from Stadium Sarawak.

The trial phase showcased ZTE’s advanced millimeter Wave Active Antenna Unit (mmWave AAU), featuring the industry’s largest bandwidth and only 1024-antenna array.

It integrates Carrier Aggregation technology, Cluster Dynamic Frequency Selection, and AI Intelligent Radio Access Network for enhanced network and streaming management.

This allows a single cell to achieve over 30Gbps speeds, with individual user speeds up to 8.5 Gbps. The technology benefits both B2B (Business-to-Business) and B2C (Business-to-Consumer) services, ensuring optimal user experiences.

The public is invited to witness this firsthand at the 5G-A Pavilion at Stadium Sarawak, hosted by CelcomDigi, U Mobile, and ZTE, or from wherever they are watching the SUKMA 2024 Opening Ceremony.

The 5G-A live broadcast is also supported by Sarawak Digital Economy Corporate Berhad (SDEC), which provides the necessary fibre backhaul.

SUKMA 2024 is a biennial national multi-sport event and it will feature 28 sports, including swimming, weightlifting, badminton, cycling, gymnastics, and many more, promising an exciting and diverse showcase of athletic talent.
