MYNIC aims to increase the number of local and international “.my” domain users by 5% to 10% in 2025, from the estimated 400,000 users by the end of this year, according to Bernama.

The agency’s chief executive officer (CEO), Datuk Hasnul Fadhly Hasan, revealed that they have received numerous applications from various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and banking.

Hasnul mentioned that applications are coming in from both local and international companies.

With new businesses joining the digital economy, including cryptocurrency ventures, he expressed confidence in achieving their target.

He emphasised the agency’s goal of encouraging entrepreneurs to register their businesses with the “.my” domain to expand their reach.

One example he shared was of a poultry farmer who registered with the “.my” domain. After launching his website, the farmer increased his chicken sales from 500 to 2,000 a month, eventually needing to partner with another farmer due to high demand.

Hasnul noted that the “.my” domain extends beyond a mere web address; it embodies a robust Malaysian identity and credibility, crucial for forging a professional online presence.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is the text entered into a browser to access a specific website. For example, “google.com” is the domain name used to visit Google.

If you want to expand your business or reach wider audiences, you need your own website.

According to exabytes, one of MYNIC’s officially appointed Registrars, you can register for a “.my” domain for as low as RM59.90 per year and you only need a MYKad to get started.
